Bread Brothers Cafe Closes Last Location

Bread Brothers Cafe on Bushwick avenue has closed

The last shop of the mini-chain best known for bready bagels and caustic customer service appears to have permanently closed.

The sign has been scratched off the awning and the interior largely cleared out. Two men opening the security grate confirmed it was closed.

Bread Brothers Bagels were aptly named as the over-proofed bagels tasted more like bread than a bagel, with the dough expanding to fill the signature bagel-hole.

What the bagelry did have going for it was a wide selection of bagels, unique cream cheese mix-ins, and a classic deli selection of sandwiches.

The shop was one of the least efficient in the city, no thanks in part to the antagonistic relationship between the woman who worked behind the counter and the shop manager. Beyond that, the inefficiencies in moving customers through busy service periods was a big turn off.

The mini-chain previously had a Greenpoint location at 912 Manhattan Ave and another at 810 Grand Street. Both closed by February.

Last month when the other shop closed, the owner told Greenpointers they planned to continue service from the East Williamsburg location, which was incorrectly identified as being in Bushwick. He promised to make deliveries to Manhattan and the Bronx, if customers called.

The website for Bread Brothers Cafe, breadbrotherscafe.com, is currently returning an error.
