Mini Whole Foods Concept Coming to East Williamsburg

The massive vacant retail space at the corner of Grand Street and Humboldt is set to become a mini Whole Foods concept reports the Real Deal.
Whole Foods has been rolling out Daily Shops in Manhattan with StuyTown and Hell’s Kitchen getting the new format. The Grand Street grab-and-go market is set to open in the fall at 774 Grand Street.
Retail at the building has been absent from the corner for the last decade. The original building was a one-store discount store that was demoed in 2014. The new mixed used building was completed in 2016 with 65 units of housing, but the ground floor retail was slower to fill.
At first it appeared as though a new hair salon training school was set to take on the whole expansive retail space. Counters and chairs were installed, but it sat unused throughout the pandemic. A few months back the hair salon chairs were finally removed and the interior walls disappeared.
East Williamsburg is suddenly awash in supermarkets with FoodTown having opened two blocks down in October.
A similar pint-sized store on the Upper East Side at 1175 Third Avenue opened last year.
