A fire in the neighboring building burned part of the bakery on Manhattan Avenue two weeks, but the bakery plans to reopen today.

Fortunato Brothers is a neighborhood institution selling Italian pastries and coffee since 1976.

Two weeks ago a fire at 291 Manhattan Avenue spread to Fortunato Brothers Bakery. The 3-alarm fire caught just before 1:30 am.

Although the residential building had a full vacate order, Fortunato Brothers suffered less damage.

The bakery is reopened just in time for St. Joseph’s Day, also known as “Italian Father’s Day.” The bakery sells cream filled zeppole in honor of the holiday.
